Job summary

Unalaska City School District seeks a secondary librarian to develop and implement an instructional program that helps students and staff become effective users of ideas and information.

The role supports the district curriculum and fosters critical thinking, enthusiastic reading, research skills and ethical information use in a school setting.

Qualifications

• Hold a current Alaska Type A teaching certificate with a library endorsement or a master’s degree in library and information science.
• Demonstrated technology skills and experience with computerized and web-based library management systems, database searching, and other digital and social media resources.
• Working knowledge of Internet searching and experience providing instruction in online reference searching.
• Ability to build relationships with colleagues, administration, parents, and school communities with professional respect.
• Ability to work with middle and high school students.
• Create a welcoming and engaging learning environment.
• Promote literature and connect students with library resources to encourage reading and research.
• Work independently while handling interruptions and shifting priorities.
• Coordinate volunteers, library assistants, and student aides.
• Apply research and theory to instructional programs and plan/provide professional development for teachers.

Job Summary

The secondary librarian is responsible for the development and implementation of an ongoing instructional program, that ensures students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. Provides for the informational needs of students and staff on a building level in support of the district curriculum and empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information.
