Job summary

Coatesville Area School District in King's Highway Elementary School is seeking a full-time Librarian to support grades K-5, plan and implement the library program, and integrate library resources with the curriculum.

The librarian will supervise clerical staff, coordinate library services across the district, and promote reading and information literacy. A PA Library certificate is required and candidates must meet district clearances and demonstrate strong communication skills.

The school librarian plans, develops, and improves the program of school library services. Assesses and meets the needs of students an faculty for information and develops programs to stimulate students' interest in reading.

What You'll Do

• This position is for grades K-5.
• Plans and implements library program.
• Schedule, trains, and supervises clerical staff.
• Schedules the use of library by classes or groups.
• Integrates the library program with the educational program.
• Programs the use of library resources by students and faculty.
• Organizes and supervises circulation of library materials.
• Publicises the services and resources of library.
• Coordinates the services of school and public libraries.
• Evaluates the building library program, services, and materials.
• Participates in library and other educational and professional associations on the local, regional, state, and national levels.
• Recognises individual student needs, interests, goals, abilities, and progress rate.
• Integrates library service, guidance, and materials with the classroom teaching program.
• Customises and personalises teaching and individualises learning by providing library service, guidance, and resources.
• Recognises current educational research, trends, methods, and materials.
• Establishes routines and procedures for selecting, ordering, processing, organising and circulating materials.
• Maintains accurate records of library holdings.
• Removes obsolete and worn materials from collection.
• Appraises the classroom learning situation regularly and systematically.
• Adapt and differentiate curriculum to meet individual student goals.
• Demonstrates familiarity with and ability to use instructional materials.
• Cooperates with school district procedures for selection, inventory, acquisition, and use of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Promotes academic, social, and emotional growth for all students.
• Collaborates effectively with fellow educators, support staff, and families.

Other Duties

• Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centres.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
• Inventories books, materials, and records as required.
• Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state testing program.
• Supports district initiatives to meet the needs of children served.
• Ability to direct and manage children effectively.
• Must have expert content knowledge in subjects taught.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited college or university.
• Valid PA Instructional I or II Library Science K-12 Certification.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
