Job summary

Safe Place for Youth is seeking a passionate LGBTQ Coordinator to lead an affirming program for LGBTQ foster youth and transitional-age youth across Los Angeles. You will build engaging youth programming, train staff and partners, and provide resources and referrals to meet diverse needs.

The role requires collaboration with local organizations, strong facilitation and cultural humility, and a commitment to inclusive services for 1,000 youth served annually.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field preferred.
• Related work or lived experience will be strongly considered in place of or in addition to a degree.
• 1-2 years of experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals in social services, education, or related settings.
• Knowledge of LGBTQ+ affirming practices and culturally responsive approaches.
• 1–2 years of experience providing direct services to high-risk transitional-age youth.
• Experience using trauma-informed care models.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate weekly Queer Joy group sessions for 5–15 youth focusing on identity, self-care, and health topics.
• Integrate creative activities like zine-making, queer trivia, playlist-building, and DIY kits.
• Create a safe, affirming environment that fosters belonging for LGBTQ youth.
• Distribute gender-affirming products and maintain resource lists.
• Provide referrals for gender-affirming healthcare and name/gender changes.
• Support staff in cultural competency and trauma-informed practices.
• Collaborate with community organizations for youth-focused events and mentorship.
