Job summary

JGM seeks an LGA Airport Technician - BHS to operate the baggage belt, ensure proper bag spacing, and clear jams to maintain on-time departures.

Responsibilities include manual movement of baggage during outages, cleaning the bagroom and TSA area, and training new hires. Candidates must lift 40–75 pounds, climb ladders, work rotating shifts, and communicate in English, with basic computer literacy.

Qualifications

  • Able to bend, stoop, and crawl in tight areas.
  • Able to lift 40-75 pounds.
  • Able to climb 10-25 ft on ladders.
  • Stand 60-75% during an 8-hour shift.
  • Operate forklift or man lift (authorized employees only).
  • Drive vehicles up to 3 tons in congested areas.
  • Good eyesight and color identification.
  • Able to differentiate colors (red, green, yellow, blue, black, brown, white, orange).
  • Work in a high noise environment with dust and jet fumes; PPE provided.
  • Write and type legibly to complete forms and paperwork.
  • Communicate in English (verbal and written).
  • Familiar with computers and Microsoft-based OS.

Essential Job Functions

Technicians are responsible for the operation of the belt. Must ensure proper spacing of bags and monitor the buildup of bags on the carousels. Must ensure that the bags are aligned as required and/or immediately clear any resulting jams. Technicians are responsible for the manual movement of baggage in the event of a system outage. Must perform general cleanupofwork areas in and around the conveyor equipment at a frequency required to maintain units free of trash, dirt and debris. Maintainers perform semi-skilled maintenance under the supervision of a Dispatcher or Supervisor.

  • Technicians must be able to perform the following functions in variable weather and environmental conditions:
  • Bend, stoop, and crawl to work in tight, restricted areas. Push, pull, lift and carry components weighing up to 40-75 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb 10-25 ft. in height on ladders and perform duties. Must have good coordination and good balance.
  • Must be able to stand 60-75% during an 8-hour shift.
  • Must be able to operate the controls for a forklift or man lift (authorized employees only) in congested area.
  • Drive vehicles weighing up to 3 tons on selected assignments in congested areas requiring good depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Must have good eyesight.
  • Work with color-coded wiring and other components which requires the ability to differentiate colors to include but not limited to red, green, yellow, blue, black, brown, white, and orange.
  • Work in a high noise-level environment, and tolerates dust and jet fumes. (Dust masks and earplugs are provided).
  • Write and type legibly to complete forms/paperwork as required.
  • Must be able to communicate – verbal and written – in English and be understood by others.
  • Be familiar with computers and Microsoft based operating systems.
  • Must be able to regulate own work with little supervision and accomplish tasks on own.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays i.e. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and days off.
  • Reports to work on a regular and timely basis.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (i.e. Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
  • Help training new hires.
  • Cleaning the Bagroom, MIT & TSA area.

All of the above functions are normally performed within certain narrow time constraints which are usually dictated upon the actual arrival of an aircraft and its scheduled departure. The failure to perform these functions may result in passenger inconvenience caused by delayed aircraft departure and passenger and employee safety. The failure to perform these functions properly may result in serious injury to passengers, employees, damaged ground equipment and/or aircraft.
