Job summary

Big Sky Resort is seeking an experienced Lift Electrician to maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems for gondolas and high‑speed chairlifts. This hands‑on role requires working in a mountain environment, with a focus on safety, reliability, and timely lift operations.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in ski lift electrical maintenance, strong knowledge of low/high voltage systems, PLCs, and VFDs, and can interpret schematics.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in ski lift maintenance with electrical work.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Knowledge of low and high voltage systems, PLCs, sensors, motors, and VFDs.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Comfort working outdoors in all weather and at heights.
  • Ability to ski or snowboard to access mountain locations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily electrical inspections and safety checks on aerial lift systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults across lift types.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and manuals.
  • Comply with ANSI B77.1 standards and regulations.
  • Work at heights up to 80 feet with fall protection.

Overview

Big Sky Resort is seeking experienced Lift Electricians with prior ski lift maintenance industry experience. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient electrical operation of all lift systems, including gondolas and high-speed chairlifts. As part of the Lift Maintenance team, the Level 2 or 3 Lift Electrician will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical components and systems related to lift operations. This is a hands‑on role that requires a strong background in electrical systems, attention to detail, and the ability to work in mountain environments and challenging weather conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily electrical inspections and safety checks on aerial lift systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults and component failures across various lift types
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and manufacturer manuals
  • Understand and comply with all ANSI B77.1 standards, state and federal regulations
  • Work at heights up to 80 feet using ladders, towers, and fall protection equipment
  • Assist with start-up procedures before lift operations begin each morning
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical maintenance and repairs performed
  • Collaborate with Lift Maintenance teammates and other departments to ensure safe and timely lift operations
  • Use good judgment and a proactive mindset to address potential issues before they affect operations
  • Maintain a professional and positive demeanor, especially in high-stress situations
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Minimum of 2 years of ski lift maintenance industry experience, specifically in electrical work
  • Working knowledge of low and high voltage systems, PLCs, sensors, motors, and VFDs
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and electrical schematics
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and at heights
  • Ability to ski or snowboard is required for access to mountain work locations
  • Basic electrical tool set required
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. unassisted
  • Must be able to push/pull equipment and components weighing up to 80 lbs. with assistance
  • Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods and climb multiple flights of stairs or towers
