Job summary

The Oregon State Legislature seeks a Legislative Assistant to support Senator Jama, handling research, writing, scheduling and constituent communications during the 2026 interim and 2027 session. The role involves drafting memos, talking points and policy notes, coordinating events, and managing social media and newsletters.

The position requires close collaboration with the District Director and may require travel within Oregon.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Strong writing and research abilities are essential.

Responsibilities

• Research, analyze and support Senator Jama’s legislation for the Long Session.
• Manage the Senator’s inbox and phone system.
• Draft one-pagers, talking points and memos on policy issues and legislation.
• Staff Senator Jama at town halls and community events.
• Manage Senator Jama’s social media account and newsletter.
• Respond to constituent emails.
