Forward Montana (FMT) is seeking a temporary, full-time Legislative Director to guide our advocacy on democracy reform, economic equality, climate solutions, LGBTQ+ justice, reproductive rights, and housing during the 2027 Montana legislative session.

The ideal candidate balances vision, urgency, strategy and team capacity, with experience in issue-based advocacy, campaigns, and working during a legislative session.

Qualifications

• Experience in issue-based advocacy, political campaigns and/or working during a legislative session.
• Ability to manage projects, run effective meetings and plan events on tight timelines.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience navigating coalitions and diverse stakeholders.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a legislative strategy, plan and budget aligned with the organization's mission.
• Collaborate with Communications to craft messaging and priority issue content.
• Coordinate with lobbyist to ensure outside strategies are effective inside the legislature.
• Organize events, press conferences, and workshops related to legislative efforts.
• Track and analyze state policies and mobilize for action.
• Build relationships with partners and participate in coalitions and press opportunities.
• Contribute to the legislative scorecard in partnership with Communications.
