Job summary

The State of Florida seeks an attorney in good standing with The Florida Bar to serve the Legislature in Tallahassee. You will conduct legal research, analyze legislation, and draft bills, amendments, staff analyses, and legal memoranda for legislators and committees.

You will provide counsel on state and federal law, monitor legislation through committees, and communicate findings clearly in writing and speech.

Qualifications

• Attorney in good standing with The Florida Bar.
• Ability to interpret Florida law and provide clear legal advice.

Responsibilities

• Drafts legislative bills and amendments with precise legal language.
• Drafts staff analyses of filed legislation.
• Briefs legislators personally or in writing on committee issues.
• Monitors progress of legislation through committees and floor.
• Provides legal counsel to legislators and committees, interpreting laws.
• Recommends changes to legislation based on case law and agency input.
• Performs legal research on Florida Statutes and related matters.
• Reviews agency actions under the Administrative Procedures Act.
