Jobtailor in Massachusetts is seeking a Senior Legal Project Manager to lead the firm’s legal project management core services for large institutional clients, plan scopes, budgets, and oversee forecasting and billing guidance.

You will coordinate among attorneys, finance, and legal support, drive process improvements, maintain workflows, and report KPI insights to partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in legal project management or legal operations within a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, billing guideline compliance, and stakeholder reporting.
  • Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience supporting teams in a distributed environment.
  • Proven ability to manage high-visibility and time-sensitive matters.
  • Strong knowledge of legal operations and portfolio/matter lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of Aderant, CounselLink, Legal Tracker, InTapp, HighQ, and Tableau.
  • Knowledge of budget-to-actuals, accruals, forecasting, WIP/AR, realization, collections, write-offs, and variance/root-cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver the firm’s legal project management core services for large and complex institutional clients.
  • Support client matter lifecycle activities including scoping, budget setup and monitoring, financial tracking, forecasting, billing guideline compliance, reporting, and issue escalation.
  • Serve as a client liaison and coordinate integration among attorneys, legal support, and finance.
  • Improve execution, efficiency, accuracy, and client experience through process improvement.
  • Document and maintain workflows, decision rights, and handoffs.
  • Set up and maintain budgets and AFAs; manage budget-to-actuals, accruals, reforecasting, realization, WIP, collections, and write-offs.
  • Capture and operationalize outside counsel, billing guideline, and AFA requirements; monitor adherence and escape risks.
  • Provide periodic client program KPI reporting and recommend actions.
  • Develop playbooks, templates, checklists, and training materials; deliver training and enablement sessions.
  • Coordinate collaboration sites, dashboards, and reporting workspaces.
  • Use firm technologies to automate data capture, maintain data quality, and produce reports.
  • Track portfolio trends and provide insights to practice and firm leadership and sponsoring partners.
  • Coordinate accounting and legal teams to meet budgeting, billing, collections, and revenue-cycle deadlines.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on continuous improvement and technology projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality of firm, client, and attorney information.
