Job summary

Scale AI, Inc. is seeking a highly qualified legal researcher for a fully remote, 1099 independent contractor fellowship. The role focuses on designing, evaluating, and interpreting advanced generative AI systems, with opportunities to co-author technical reports and research papers.

Applicants should hold a JD, LLM, or be enrolled in a top 2L/3L program, with Bar admission preferred. Visa sponsorship is not available; the engagement lasts about six months with potential extensions.

• Experience as Attorney/Associate, Legal Analyst, Counsel, Law Clerk, In-House Counsel, Legal Researcher, or Law Professor.

• Collaborative work: design real-world scenarios, evaluate model outputs for regulatory alignment, and provide feedback to improve performance across domains.
• Engage with Scale's labs and platforms on high‑impact projects.
• Co‑author technical reports and research papers with Scale's research team.

The Human Frontier Collective (HFC) Fellowship brings together top researchers and domain experts to collaborate on high-impact work that are shaping the future of AI. As an HFC Fellow, you'll apply your academic and professional expertise to help design, evaluate, and interpret advanced generative AI systems—while gaining exposure to cutting‑edge research and working alongside an interdisciplinary network of leading thinkers.

What You'll Do

• Collaborative Work: Get invited to engage in high‑impact projects with our partnered AI labs and platforms. Design complex real‑world scenarios, evaluating model outputs for accuracy and regulatory alignment, and providing targeted feedback to improve performance across domains like compliance, litigation, case law, and contract analysis.
• HFC Community: Beyond the work, you'll become part of a supportive, interdisciplinary network of innovators and thought leaders committed to advancing frontier AI across domains.
• Contribute to Research Publications: Collaborate with Scale's research team to co‑author technical reports and research papers—boosting your academic visibility and professional recognition (e.g., SciPredict, PropensityBench, Professional Reasoning Benchmark).

Who Should Apply
