Job Type: Full Time
Team: Commercial Team

Why Laine

Join us at Laine, where we’re on a mission to make expert-quality legal work accessible to every law firm and legal team. Laine is legal software built by attorneys — decades of legal methodology, built into the product — so lawyers produce partner-level drafting, review, and analysis without changing the way they work.

Legal AI will be one of the defining categories of this decade, and the companies that win it are being
decided right now. We launched in Switzerland in 2026, and we’re now building our U.S. business from
Austin. You’d be joining the commercial team at the heart of that expansion — early enough that your work
shapes how we grow, who we reach, and how we win.

If you push for excellence and want to help build something genuinely new in legal technology, we invite
you to build with us. At Laine, the future of legal work is being written today — and we’re just getting
started.

Role Overview

As Legal Engineer at Laine, you will be the practicing lawyer inside our go-to-market team — the person in the room who has lived the work our clients live every day. Laine was built by lawyers encoding decades of methodology into software, and this role carries that credibility into every client conversation in the U.S. market. Make no mistake: this is a revenue role with an acquisition mandate — you are part of the sales process, and your success is measured in the firms that choose Laine and adopt it deeply. You will sit alongside sales in demos and pilots, guide new firms through onboarding, support client success on the legal substance of adoption, and translate what you hear from attorneys into concrete product direction. When a skeptical partner asks whether Laine truly understands their practice, you are the answer.

What you’ll do
  • Serve as the legal authority across the U.S. go-to-market motion, joining sales conversations, demos, pilots, and evaluations to speak lawyer-to-lawyer with partners and general counsels
  • Lead the legal substance of client onboarding: configuring playbooks around a firm’s standards,
mapping Laine to their practice areas, and showing attorneys how their methodology lives inside the product
  • Support client success post-acquisition, helping firms deepen adoption across document types, practice groups, and workflows
Stress-test the product the way a practicing lawyer would — drafting, reviewing, and negotiating real matters — and turn what you find into concrete recommendations for the product team
  • Translate client feedback into product evolution, working directly with engineering and the lawyer
team on what U.S. practice demands
  • Help legal professionals navigate what AI means for their practice with the empathy of someone who has done the work at 10 PM themselves
  • Contribute legal insight to marketing, enablement, and sales training, so the entire commercial team sounds like the industry rather than a vendor
  • Help define the Legal Engineer function in the U.S. as an early member of the team
What you have
  • A law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and admission to practice — this is required
  • Real practice experience at a law firm or in-house legal team — at least a year, with transactional,
corporate, or contracts-heavy work preferred — this is required
  • Genuine excitement about moving from practicing law to transforming how law is practiced
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with senior legal audiences: you are credible with a managing partner and comfortable in a commercial conversation
  • AI obsession and fluency: you already use AI as a force multiplier in your own legal work, and you carry informed conviction about where it belongs in practice
  • Comfort with ambiguity and building at an early stage, where your job is to define the role, not follow a script
  • Team player who moves fluidly between sales, client success, and product, and raises the quality of each
  • Bonus: experience with legal technology, legal operations, or knowledge management inside a firm

If your experience doesn’t precisely match this description but you believe you would excel in the role, we encourage you to apply.

How we work

These traits run through everyone on this team. You don’t need to arrive polished, but you’ll do your best
work here if they sound like you:

  • Seek the uncomfortable — growth lives outside the comfort zone, and we go there on purpose
  • Challenge and be challenged — the best idea wins, no matter whose it is
  • Accountability with vulnerability — own the outcome, and be honest about what you don’t know
  • Play for each other — we win as a team or not at all
  • Excellence in everything — quality is the brand, down to the smallest detail
Compensation

The annualized base salary range for this role is $110,000–$165,000, plus performance-based incentives. The final offer will be based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
