Qualifications

  • 5+ years of accounting, billing, or finance experience in a legal environment.
  • Associate's degree in Business, Finance, or related field; bachelor's preferred.
  • Experience with third party vendor electronic billing on multiple platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute and process monthly prebills for assigned billing attorneys.
  • Prepare, review, and finalize client invoices with edits and adjustments.
  • Submit electronic invoices and verify supporting billing documentation.
  • Resolve electronic billing rejections and prepare appeals.
  • Respond to client billing inquiries and monitor WIP.
  • Assist with accounts receivable and collections for assigned attorneys.
  • Collaborate with collections staff to minimize credit balances.
  • Provide prompt responses to billing questions from attorneys and clients.
  • Support departmental projects and other accounting duties.

Location: 100% Remote or any Harris Beach Murtha Office in Connecticut (Bantam, Hartford, New Haven, or Stamford), Massachusetts (Boston), or New York (Albany, Buffalo, Ithaca, Long Island, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, or White Plains).

Harris Beach Murtha Is Seeking An Experienced Legal Billing Specialist To Support The Firm’s Attorneys And Clients Through The Timely And Accurate Preparation, Processing, And Management Of Legal Invoices. You Will THRIVE In This Role If You Have:

  • 5+ years of accounting, billing, or finance experience in a legal environment
  • Associate's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field; bachelor's degree preferred
  • Third party vendor electronic billing experience on multiple platforms, including split billing, multi-payors, discounts, and alternative fee arrangements
  • Experience with Aderant Expert, Aderant Classic, Bill Blast, or similar billing platforms
  • Ability to handle complex billing situations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a client service mindset
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines with minimal supervision

The Legal Billing Specialist Plays a Key Role In The Firm's Financial Operations. Do You Have The DRIVE And DESIRE To:

  • Distribute and process monthly prebills for assigned billing attorneys
  • Prepare, review, and finalize client invoices, including edits, transfers, and adjustments
  • Submit electronic invoices and verify the accuracy of supporting billing documentation
  • Resolve electronic billing rejections and prepare appeals
  • Respond to client billing inquiries
  • Conduct billing research and provide support for current and historical invoices
  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and assist attorneys in minimizing unbilled time
  • Monitor accounts receivable and support collection efforts for assigned attorneys
  • Analyze accounting and billing discrepancies and reconcile issues accurately
  • Collaborate with collections staff to resolve outstanding balances and minimize credit balances
  • Provide prompt, professional responses to billing questions from attorneys and clients
  • Assist with departmental projects, cross-training initiatives, and other accounting-related duties as assigned

Salary information will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position, geographic locations and weekly hours schedule.

Albany, NY: $35.90 - $46.16/hour (37.5 hours/week)

Buffalo, Ithaca, Rochester (Pittsford), or Syracuse, NY: $34.74 - $44.67 (38.75 hours/week)

Downstate NY: $43.96 - $54.95/hour (35 hours/week)

Boston, MA: $43.96 - $54.95/hour (35 hours/week)
