Job summary

DLA Piper is seeking a Legal Specialist, Copy Editor, to review, edit, and refine pre-bill narratives ensuring client invoices reflect accurate legal services and adhere to billing standards. You will collaborate with attorneys, billing, and finance teams to improve clarity and professionalism of billing narratives before submission.

The role demands legal terminology familiarity, precision, and strong proofreading skills, with a hybrid work model across U.S. offices.

Qualifications

Experience reviewing detailed written content for accuracy and compliance.
Experience with legal terminology and attorney-generated content.
Experience supporting attorney billing processes or client invoicing in a law firm environment.

Responsibilities

Review and edit pre-bill narratives for accuracy, clarity, grammar, punctuation, style, and consistency prior to client invoice generation.
Partner with partners, attorneys, legal support professionals, and billing teams to revise time entry descriptions to reflect legal work performed.
Ensure billing narratives comply with firm billing standards and client guidelines.
Identify unclear or non-compliant entries and coordinate revisions.
Standardize billing language across matters while preserving substantive descriptions.
Conduct quality assurance reviews of invoices to reflect attorney work product and client requirements.
Assist in developing and maintaining style guides and narrative standards for billing descriptions.
Provide guidance to attorneys on effective billing narrative drafting.
Collaborate with Finance, Billing, Pricing, and Practice Group teams to support billing quality initiatives.
