Responsibilities

  • The District Attorney's Office splits duties between the Human Trafficking Unit and the Conviction Review Unit and performs secretarial tasks with legal terminology.
  • Human Trafficking Unit: process materials, review motions, communicate with defense counsel, manage subpoenas and victim/witness data.
  • Conviction Review Unit: maintain CRU records, draft letters, screen new applications, organize discovery and file management.

About Our Job

The Mission of the Denver District Attorney's Office is to professionally and completely prosecute crimes and investigate potential crimes on behalf of the people of the State of Colorado, and in doing so, do justice, advocate for victims' rights and advise and consult in the deterrence and prevention of crime; to ensure the open, evenhanded and humane administration of justice. The office employs approximately 100 attorneys and 150 support staff, who are responsible for more than 6,000 felony and 12,000 misdemeanor prosecutions annually.

The elected District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver, and is responsible for the prosecution of violations of Colorado State Laws. The current Denver District Attorney is Beth McCann.

Location

This position reports on site from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Republic Plaza building located at 370 17th St, Suite 5300, Denver, CO 80202.

What You’ll Do

The District Attorney's Office for the City and County of Denver has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Administrative Assistant. This role will split duties between the Human Trafficking Unit and the Conviction Review Unit. Responsibilities include secretarial duties utilizing legal terminology, procedures and documents, and supporting our mission to better the community.

Human Trafficking Unit:

  • Process case materials received from law enforcement and grand jury to ensure timely discovery for the defense
  • Review each case for relevant protective motions in compliance with office policy
  • Communicate and troubleshoot with defense counsel when discovery questions or issues arise
  • Facilitate viewing of sensitive materials that are not discoverable
  • Update all cases with appropriate subpoenas and documentation after each court date
  • Maintain updated contact information for victims and witnesses while protecting confidential information
  • Generate and file all necessary paperwork on cases
  • Task attorneys, investigators and advocates when new cases are filed
  • Assist as needed with Denver Anti‑Trafficking Alliance (DATA) related administrative tasks

Conviction Review Unit:

  • Maintain the CRU spreadsheet tracking applications
  • Draft and mail letters
  • Screen and log new applications
  • Scan mail and applications and save them in the CRU drives
  • Organize and upload discovery
  • Scan and organize paper discovery
  • Request, keep track, and organize pick‑up of files from storage
  • Make occasional phone calls to applicants and family members
  • Monitor the CRU email box
