Job summary

The Department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in Arabic, Person, Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Hebrew, Biblical Hebrew, and related subjects during Summer 2026, Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027.

Responsibilities may include teaching one or more sections, advising students with regular office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials, and maintaining

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in an advanced degree (or equivalent international degree) program.
• MA degree (or equivalent international degree) in relevant fields of language and literature, cultures or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in teaching relevant field of Middle Eastern culture, preferably in a college or university setting.

Responsibilities

• Teach one or more sections of a lecture course (or courses) and attend all lectures.
• Advise students and hold regular office hours; assign grades.
• Prepare course materials and maintain a course website.
