Job summary

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) seeks a Leasing Counsel to draft and negotiate leases, letters of intent, subleases, amendments, and related documents on-site in Century City, CA. You will support leasing teams, identify legal and business issues, and provide timely guidance to avoid disputes in a dynamic retail real estate portfolio.

The role requires admission to the California Bar, strong negotiation and communication skills, and experience with complex retail or mixed-use leases.

• Provide business-focused legal advice to avoid disputes in landlord/tenant matters.
• Contribute to development of company policies and leasing procedures.
• Guide paralegals and coordinators through lease documentation processes and execution.

Scope

• Draft and negotiate leases, letters of intent, subleases, amendments, assignments, temporary license agreements, and other related leasing documents.
• Assist the leasing teams in tenant lease negotiations. Must be able to identify and discuss legal and business issues and assist the teams in resolving such issues in the best interest of the Company.
• Provide advice to the business in the avoidance of legal disputes including landlord/tenant legal issues, tenant leases, tenant defaults and other miscellaneous legal matters.
• Other responsibilities shall include, without limitation:
• Participate in the development and interpretation of company operating policies and procedures.
• Provide guidance and advice on legal aspects of leasing and other general real estate matters.
• Provide guidance to paralegals and coordinators to process lease documentation through execution.
• Provide general legal advice related to leasing matters that may arise from time to time.

Qualifications

• Member of the California Bar in good standing.
• Strong academic credentials preferred.
• Law firm and in-house experience preferred. Experience with REITs and/or retail real estate companies preferred.
• 4+ years prior experience negotiating and drafting complex retail and/or mixed-use lease documents, preferably in regional or flagship mixed use retail development settings.
• Excellent reading, oral/written communication skills, strong analytical capability, negotiation skills and concise grammatical skills, detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude.
• Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects as well as strong follow through skills.
• Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, team-oriented and dynamic environment.
• Ability to complete projects timely and accurately and to interact and communicate diplomatically with others.

Compensation

• Exempt
• $150,000 – $195,000/year + Discretionary Annual Bonus
