Overview

The Jewish Board has delivered innovative, best-in-class mental and behavioral health services for nearly 150 years, serving everyone from infants and families to children, teens, and adults. All Staten Island programs are allotted a $4,420 commuter differential applicable to anyone who currently works or is hired to work on Staten Island and does not live there, in addition to base salary or hourly wage.

Position Purpose

The Staten Island Connected Care CCBHC is comprised of several community-based programs providing direct care to over 1,500 clients annually, both on-site and in the community. The Learning Specialist 1 (LS1), under the direction of the Senior Learning Specialist, provides change management support, training, and consultation to staff working with people with mental health, substance use, psychosocial and intellectual/developmental challenges in community-based, day, residential, and child welfare systems of care.

Position Overview

The LS1, with the Learning Department team, helps the agency plan and implement changes in policy, procedures, and practice, supports implementation and integration of the mission and strategic plan, curates external training resources, develops customized training materials, and executes plans for sustaining practice and evaluating training. The LS1 will participate in all Learning Department endeavors and will immediately create and deliver introductory learning curricula in a few relevant areas with limited department support. The LS1 will be supported to develop knowledge and skills toward creating and delivering more advanced learning packages focusing on specialized content areas and more than one evidence-based/informed model.

Key Essential Functions
  • Training
  • Research, assess, and curate external training resources to meet program staff development needs
  • Create and deliver introductory training relevant to behavioral health and social services, including agency values, workplace expectations, client engagement, and assessment
  • Develop knowledge and expertise toward advanced training packages in areas such as family engagement, trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented practice, substance use, culturally affirming care, LGBTQ competencies, documentation, risk management, crisis de-escalation, and health literacy
  • Create and deliver evidence-based training packages for teams and/or individuals in at least one intervention area such as: MI, CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, EMDR, CPP, Brief Therapy, Shared Decision Making, and other relevant practices; work toward delivering evidence-based training in a second intervention area
  • Create and deliver training packages in other areas relevant to schools, care management, child welfare, and behavioral health services
  • Case, Team, and System Consultations
  • Provide clinical and system consultations to support competency and integration of training into daily practice, focusing on site-based supervisory development, practice improvement, sustainability planning, outcomes monitoring, and quality improvement support
  • Assist in developing program or division models of care and deliver training and consultation to support model implementation, sustainability, and outcomes monitoring

Core Competencies
  • Training and Development: Research, assess, and curate external training resources; create and deliver introductory and advanced training packages in areas such as family engagement, trauma-informed care, and culturally affirming care; deliver evidence-based training in intervention areas like MI and CBT.
  • Consultation and Support: Provide clinical and system consultations to support competency and integration of training into daily practice; assist in developing program models of care and deliver training to support model implementation and sustainability.
  • Material Development: Create training tool kits and fact sheets; contribute to webinar creation and other Learning Department endeavors such as training evaluation and crisis consultation.
  • Educational and Training Requirements: Bachelor’s or master’s in psychology, social work, or a related field preferred; minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience; demonstrated evidence of excellent training skills and experience in evidence-based practice; knowledge and skills in cultural competency training required.
  • Experience and Language Preference: Minimum of 2–4 years of relevant experience; supervisory and training experience in behavioral health interventions is a plus; fluency in Spanish is useful.
Education/Training Required
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in psychology, social work or a related field preferred with a minimum of 2 years of relatable work experience OR High School Degree with a minimum of 2–4 years of experience in a not-for-profit setting
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent training skills
  • Experience in evidence-based practice with at least one treatment; supervisory and training experience in the above interventions is a plus
  • Availability to work during set Jewish Board training times and travel to training sites; capacity to train within The Jewish Board standards
  • Knowledge and skills in cultural competency training are required
  • Strong verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels
  • Organized with the ability to work independently to complete projects
  • Excellent listening and problem-solving skills
  • Skilled decision-maker and project manager that works proactively in an outcome-focused environment
Experience/Language
  • A minimum of 2–4 years of relevant experience is required
  • Two years in supervision of behavioral health staff or project management preferred
  • License to practice preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish is useful
Computer Skills
  • Excellent skills with relevant software and technology including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word
Work Environment
  • Travel to multiple program sites throughout the five boroughs and Westchester County is required
  • Noise level and hazards typical of an office, educational, rehabilitation, industrial, workshop, or health-related environment
  • The work environment involves no physical risk or hazardous conditions
  • To perform essential functions, the candidate is routinely required to sit (70%) and stand (30%)
