Component Repair Technologies, Inc. (CRT) in Mentor, OH seeks an Learning and Development Specialist to design, implement, and evaluate training programs tailored to production roles.

You will lead OJT initiatives that onboard and qualify staff, partnering with production leaders and SMEs to map training paths and competency criteria. You will monitor program effectiveness using KPI data, keep accurate records, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and FAA standards.

The Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating learning programs and initiatives to foster employee development and enhance organizational performance that are specific to the position. The position leads the development and administration of on-the-job training (OJT) programs that support employee onboarding, skill development, qualification, and career progression.

Working closely with production supervisors and subject matter experts, this position establishes training pathways, competency verification processes, skills matrices, and employee qualification standards to ensure consistent training delivery and workforce readiness across departments and shifts. The position monitors program effectiveness through both qualitative and quantitative measures, including training records, competency attainment, KPI alignment, employee interactions, and feedback from department managers throughout the organization.

This position ensures accurate training records, qualification documentation, and competency verification processes are maintained to support operational, quality, and safety requirements. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys working with people, is highly organized and detail-oriented, and is comfortable balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Create, coordinate, and support structured OJT programs for CRT production employees by partnering with production leaders, supervisors, subject matter experts, and designated OJT trainers to develop position-specific training plans, learning activities, qualification criteria, and competency sign-off processes.
  • Design, develop, coordinate and deliver training programs that support employee development, operational effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and organizational objectives, including onboarding, on-the-job training (OJT), leadership development, technical skills, and professional development initiatives.
  • Partner with department managers, supervisors and subject matter experts to assess training needs and skills gaps and develop training plans aligned with departmental goals, position requirements, and workforce development needs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, surveys, and other assessment tools and make recommendations for curriculum improvement.
  • Maintain training records and ensure compliance with company, customer, regulatory, and audit requirements, including FAA Part 145 and other applicable industry standards.
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices in learning and development to enhance organizational learning initiatives.
  • Support employee development, career progression, and succession planning initiatives by providing guidance, resources, and visibility to internal development opportunities.
  • Administer and maintain the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring accurate tracking of training compliance, employee development, and training-related data.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Learning and Development, Human Resources, Organizational Management, or a related field; or a minimum of two years of experience in a related role within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience developing or coordinating on-the-job training within a manufacturing or production environment, including training plans, competency verification, employee qualification, and training documentation.
  • Two to three years of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating training and professional development programs for young adults and adult learners or relevant experience in a training or educational environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and work successfully with employees, supervisors, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and drive projects to completion.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability and willingness to support employees on all shifts, including adjusting work schedules as needed to deliver training, conduct observations, and verify competencies.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience administering and maintaining a Learning Management System (LMS) and using instructional design or content authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, Storyline, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with competency-based training, skills matrices, qualification tracking, and workforce development programs.
  • Previous experience as a trainer, mentor, coach, instructor, or subject matter expert.
  • Experience creating, editing, and maintaining technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other materials that support employee training and production operations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Safety Sensitive Environment: the successful candidate will be required to follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Work standing and/or sitting during a normal shift.
  • May be required to occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.
