Job summary

The Illinois Association of School Administrators seeks a Library Support Paraprofessional to assist in maintaining library services and help teachers and students access print and non-print resources in the Learning Resource Center. The role reports to Building Administration and the District Library/Literacy Coordinator.

Responsibilities include scheduling, ordering books, conducting library classes, and maintaining inventory, with focus on student safety and orderly operations in the LRC.

Qualifications

  • Paraprofessional license through ISBE or higher as eligibility.
  • Completion of 60 college hours or an associate degree or pass required assessments.
  • Pre-employment medical exam, TB clearance, and background/fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual library schedule.
  • Order and receive books for librarian.
  • Run planned library classes.
  • Notify homerooms about overdue books and collect fines.
  • Repair damaged books or route for repair.

Job description

Primary Function

To support the district in maintaining library services and assist teachers and students in utilizing the print and non-print resources of the school's Learning Resource Center.

Reports to

Building Administration and District Library, Literacy, and Educational Technology Coordinator

Supervisory Responsibilities

Monitor and respond to students to ensure appropriate behavior and safety for all while the students are present within the Learning Resource Center.

$19.44/hr

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Paraprofessional License through the Illinois State Board of Education by: Successful completion of sixty(60) semester hours of college or university coursework; or Hold an Associate's (or higher) college degree; or Successfully pass the ACT WorkKeys Assessment Test or the ETS Paraprofessional AssessmentTest along with a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including tuberculosis clearance.
  • Pass a Regional Office of Education Fingerprint/Background Clearance including Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Prepare individual library schedule.
  • Order and receive books selected for purchase by the librarian.
  • Prepare and execute plannedlibrary classes.
  • Write notices to homeroom teachers and students concerning overdue books, and collects fines for such books.
  • Make simple repairs on damaged books and sends more severely damaged books for repair to the LRC Director.
  • Monitor attendance in the library and keeps attendance records.
  • Ready books for reserve on teacher's requests, and maintains the reserve shelf.
  • Prepare current magazines for shelving and maintains the back number stacks.
  • Responsible for the annual inventory of library materials and the preparation of lists of missing books and books to be discarded. This information is sent to the LRC Director.
  • Shelve incoming books.
  • Oversee the general neatness and attractiveness of the library and its' displays.
  • Maintains current inventory of supplies and suggests items for acquisition as needed.
  • Help students and teachers locate books, periodicals, reference materials and other instructional materials.
  • Read to all classes (in elementary buildings)
  • Responsible for maintaining proper student discipline in the LRC.
  • Inventory and maintain AV equipment and distributes equipment to the staff.
  • Locate materials using the on-line computer catalog.
  • Check books in/out on the computer.
  • Attend all LRC staff meetings.
  • Refer requests for Inter-library loan requests to the district LRC Director and responsibility for distribution of booksto the teacher and the return of the books to the LRC Director.
  • Perform such other tasks as the LRC Director may, from time to time, assign.
