Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a strategic CPI project leader to drive 6 Sigma initiatives across powertrain components in the IDES division.

You will manage multiple CPI projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, and ensure solutions are delivered with low cost and high effectiveness for customers and dealers. The role emphasizes technical leadership, communication, and value-stream coordination to achieve global implementation and measurable defect reductions.

Role Definition

This position will lead 6 Sigma Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects within the Integrated Drivetrain Energy Solutions (IDES) Division (Torque Convertors, Transmissions, Axles, Final Drives, & CVTs) across a broad range of Caterpillar machines. Work towards a large reduction in customer defects & bottom line warranty expense, while ultimately improving the customer & dealer experience. This is done by improving our solutions & services while effectively communicating and ensuring the improvements are at the lowest possible cost & seamless to customers & extended enterprise.

What you will do
  • Manage approximately 10-12 CPI projects across various stages of implementation, lead regular cross functional team meetings or workshops to define the problem, create a project plan, implement immediate customer containment actions, identify & investigate issue root causes, facilitate solution(s) creation, validation, and implementation.

  • Work throughout the value streams to ensure solutions are implemented worldwide optimally, regularly creating/updating publications & systems for communication to worldwide dealers, regularly summarizing reporting to leaders/clients/dealers on project status and escalating appropriately when roadblocks are encountered.

  • Mentor other project leaders & lead division wide product / process improvement projects. (Rough Split -> 50% technical leadership, 25% communication, 25% value stream coordination)

Degree Requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering or Business or an equivalent level of work experience desired.

What you must have (skills)
  • Six Sigma Methodology: Knowledge of the concepts of six sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) methodology; ability to use the methodology to improve the manufacturing processes and control the improvements by eliminating root causes.

  • Active Learning: Understanding the necessity for continuous personal growth and learning; ability to gauge one's strengths, limitations and interests accurately, and use this knowledge for purposes of performance effectiveness self-development.

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.

  • Interpersonal Relationships: Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Process Improvement: Understanding and insight into evaluating current product quality and production methods and ability to maintains focus on the continuous improvement of processes, products and services.

  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Top Candidates will also have
  • 10+ years of professional level experience.

  • Experience with Caterpillar drivetrain software & hardware systems & features

  • Experience in FEA, Creo, GD&T, Teamcenter, & Software Development Process

  • Experience running complex Drivetrain CPI projects successfully w/ knowledge of supporting processes

  • Demonstrated excellent project management skills (certification), team leadership skills, and excellent communication skills.

  • Should have knowledge of other functions that provide inputs regularly, i.e., Product Development, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Operations.

  • Must have the ability to learn and do quality analysis and have basic computer skills.

  • Must be very customer focused and can drive change throughout the enterprise effectively.

  • Must be able to manage risk and ambiguity on a project.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
