Job summary

Alexandria is seeking a Gas Leak Survey Technician to perform field surveys of the Natural Gas Utility System, classify leaks, and report findings to the utility and inspectors. This role requires readiness for 24-hour call and strict adherence to safety and regulatory mandates.

You will use hand tools and computer systems to record surveys, prepare reports, and coordinate with maintenance teams. A high school diploma or GED and related experience, plus a valid driver's license and required

Responsibilities

• Survey, monitor, and classify leaks in the natural gas distribution system and report findings to the utility and state/federal inspectors.
• Prepare, process, and maintain records and all required reports in accordance with department policies and mandates.
• Maintain a system for conducting and updating surveys and ensuring compliance with mandates and guidelines.
• Initiate necessary repairs, precautions, and safety measures based on survey findings.
• Operate hand tools and related equipment, and use a computer to complete essential functions; inspect and maintain survey equipment.

Job description

The purpose of this classification is to perform survey work on the Natural Gas Utility System to ensure compliance with State of Louisiana and Federal mandates. This position is subject to 24-hour call.

Applies knowledge of layout, characteristics of the municipal gas distribution system to safely survey, monitor, and classify leaks in the gas system, and report findings to the utility, as well as state and federal inspectors.

Prepares, processes, and maintains the appropriate records; prepares and processes all reports as required by department policies and procedures and applicable state and federal mandates.

Maintains a system for conducting and updating surveys.

Determines and initiates necessary repairs, precautions, warnings and safety measures.

Ensures compliance with state and federal mandates and guidelines.

Operates hand tools, including hand-held breaker, and equipment related to gas leak surveying; operates a personal computer as necessary to complete essential functions.

Inspects, cleans, and maintains various equipment related to gas leak surveying.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or GED; supplemented by significant experience in maintenance and repair of a natural gas system; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.

Must obtain certifications as required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six months of hire.
