Job summary

The Lincoln County Community Shelter and Resource Center is preparing for the upcoming Winter, assembling a team for Winter Shelter Lead Aide roles. These positions will perform duties of a Winter Shelter Aide with added responsibilities including coordinating with Supervisors, training staff to policies, and leading quality assurance projects.

The Winter Shelter runs from November through April, is seasonal, part-time, non-benefitted, with up to 40 hours per week during the winter season.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience working with disadvantaged/disenfranchised populations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-the-job training and orientation for Winter Shelter Aide staff.
• Monitor team performance and participate in quality improvement projects.
• Assist with daily shelter operations including meals, cleaning, laundry, and guest support.
• Enforce conduct guidelines and shelter rules; screen guests and document belongings.
• Staff reception and guest engagement; assist with resource navigation and safety checks.

Education

Job description

The Lincoln County Community Shelter and Resource Center is preparing for the upcoming Winter, getting a crew together to help provide some safety and comfort to some of our most vulnerable neighbors and community members during the harsher Coastal weather months. We are currently looking to fill Winter Shelter Lead Aide positions. These folks will perform all duties of a Winter Shelter Aide with additional responsibilities that include working collaboratively with Supervisors or Managers in assigning work, training to policies and procedures, leading team in quality improvement and quality assurance projects, and motivating and supporting the Winter Shelter Aide team.

The Winter Shelter is scheduled to open the beginning of November and to close the end of April. This is a seasonal position. It is part-time, non-benefitted with the possibility of working up to 40 hrs/week during the Winter season.

$21.93 - $23.97 per hour*

*Depending on prior CSRC experience and shift.

We are currently staffing the Newport shelter location for both Swing Shift (5pm-12am) and Graveyard Shift (12am-8am)

Lead Duties:

• Provide on-the-job training and new hire orientation, assigns tasks, works collaboratively with supervisor or manager to motivate, engage and support staff.
• Monitor team performance and reports on metrics, quality improvement and assurance projects.

Assist in daily programs:

• Present guest with conduct guidelines, shelter contract and list of prohibited materials, verbally explain conduct guidelines and prohibited materials as well as providing written documentation
• Screen guests for prohibited items and kenneling needs upon entry, provide storage bags and document belongings
• Assist with cleaning, site upkeep, kitchen, laundry, meals, showers, restrooms, and supportive services.
• Facilitate and monitor guests with laundry or showers, or restrooms and smoking breaks access.
• Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for shelter guests, and staff.
• Staff reception area to include guest engagement and answering phones, handing out hygiene items and monitoring facility safety.
• Assist with meal preparation and distribution.
• Inventory and maintain supplies, including kitchen and cleaning supplies (bleach, gloves, masks, etc.)

Safety:

• Maintain the safety and security of the facility.
• Ensure that the shelter facility rules and regulations are followed.
• Conduct searches and security checks of guests and facility and document findings within the guidelines.
• Report any issues or problems encountered with residents.

Other Functions:

• Assist clients with navigation to resources.
• May be assigned other duties.

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma / GED

EXPERIENCE

• One year of work experience with disadvantaged/disenfranchised populations that includes exposure to individuals who are unhoused.
• Bilingual and/or bicultural competencies for the Latino population are desired but not required.
• Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties as determined by the County.

LICENSES

• Oregon Driver's licensed required within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge of/Ability to:

• Working with unhoused populations or in a shelter setting
• Maintain confidential information.
• De-escalate, redirect and remain calm when guests are in distress
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors.
