Job summary

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection in Fairbanks, Alaska, is recruiting two Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3s for the White Mountain Fire Crew (Type 2 Initial Attack). This lead crewmember role covers wildfire suppression, chainsaw work, water pump operations, burnout and backfiring, line digging, and related admin tasks on a 20‑person hand crew.

Minimum qualifications include twelve months of wildland fire fighting or forestry experience, Red Card

Qualifications

• Twelve months of wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience, of which at least six months was at the developmental level.
• Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System.
• Substitution: completed forestry/fire science coursework may substitute for six months of general field experience; college credit equivalencies are defined in the notice.
• There is no substitution for the six months of developmental experience and for the Red Card qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead crewmember on a 20-person hand crew (Type 2 Initial Attack).
• Perform wildland fire suppression, chainsaw operations, water pump operations, burnout and backfiring, line digging, and basic admin duties.
• When not on assignment, maintain readiness and be available throughout the fire season.
