Lead Video Technician - BMG Orlando

Full Time Position

Blue Man Group Orlando is looking for a full-time Lead Video Technician. The Video Technician is the main support for the Lighting & Video Head of Department. In addition to running shows, the Lead oversees all technical and safety aspects of the Video equipment, including general troubleshooting and maintenance. The Technician participates in training and scheduling of all department members in conjunction with the Lighting & Video HOD. Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, teamwork, meeting deadlines, and working with diverse populations are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Video Department for the local production;
  • Assist in training all members of the Video Department and provide ongoing training to ensure cue consistency and safety;
  • Maintain effective systems for clear communication of notes, changes, scheduling, and other company information to members of the Video Department;
  • Run shows each week on the Video track;
  • Perform all duties as outlined on the run sheets (including preset, show cues, turnover, and post-show) in a safe, professional, timely, and efficient manner;
  • Oversee department run sheets and show cues, including necessary changes; prepare regular updates to run sheets as needed;
  • Participate in all show contingency and emergency evacuation rehearsals;
  • Maintain and oversee all technical elements of the show under the Video Department jurisdiction;
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise;
  • Maintain open communication about inventory of equipment and supplies, and any show notes, technical problems or concerns;
  • Oversee the maintenance, cleaning, and organization of workspaces;
  • Adhere to safety rules and regulations for locality and department;
  • Support gigs, trainings, rehearsals, and marketing events;
  • Participate in load‑in and load‑out and assist other departments as needed;
  • Perform any other work‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of video systems and running shows, as well as technical run crew and rigging;
  • Theatrical video experience preferred, but not required;
  • Self‑motivated, innovative, and comfortable in a fast‑paced, creative environment;
  • Leadership and project management skills;
  • Continuous improvement mindset to simplify and improve work processes;
  • Organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of lighting systems is a plus;
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for handling technical issues during a live show;
  • Adherence to OSHA regulations and participation in required health and safety training;
  • Adherence to Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies, and regulations pertaining to safety and equipment use;
  • Ability to assist other departments when necessary for cross‑departmental support;
  • At least 5 years of previous experience in a similar environment;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Arts or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience;
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken; ability to communicate via headset;
  • Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;
  • Ability to perform essential functions: climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting (at least 50 lbs), working with limited visibility, for extended periods;
  • Verification of right to work in the United States, as demonstrated by completion of Form I‑9 upon hire.
