Job summary

Westlake Animal Hospital in Austin, TX, part of Thrive Pet Healthcare, is seeking a Lead Veterinary Technician to stay hands-on with patient care while guiding daily hospital operations. You’ll mentor technicians, support surgery and anesthesia services, and partner with leadership to create an exceptional experience for pets, clients, and team members.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of veterinary technician experience in a general practice setting.
• Previous lead/shift supervisor or mentoring experience.
• Strong surgery support, anesthesia monitoring, and patient care.
• Excellent communication and client service skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience coaching and training veterinary staff.
• Understanding of hospital operations and workflow.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and support technicians and assistants through daily patient care activities.
• Provide ongoing training and skill development opportunities for team members.
• Foster a positive, supportive, and accountable team culture.
• Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
• Partner with hospital leadership on staffing, scheduling, and retention efforts for the technical team.
• Partner with hospital leadership on staffing, scheduling, workflow management, and team development initiatives.
• Lead monthly meetings and quarterly check-ins to support communication and accountability.
• Address performance concerns through coaching and corrective action conversations.
