Job summary

Long Valley Animal Hospital in Long Valley, NJ, seeks a Lead Veterinary Surgical Technician to join our compassionate team. You will work with the latest surgical techniques, support veterinarians in medical, surgical, and dental procedures, and help maintain high standards of patient care.

Responsibilities include managing staff during shifts, maintaining meticulous medical records, preparing treatment areas, and guiding client education on preventive care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • CVT or LVT certification/license is required.
  • Prior leadership experience is required.
  • Ability to allocate dedicated surgery days based on hospital needs.

Lead Veterinary Surgical Technician

Long Valley Animal Hospital in Long Valley, NJ

The target schedule for this role is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, but is subject to change.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Provide compassionate care to pet patients and their loved ones
  • Responsible for creating an environment that bolsters the morale and retention of doctors and staff, where everyone is treated with respect and kindness.
  • Keep accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy
  • Prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas
  • Oversee staff to ensure that each job is being effectively handled and shifts are sufficiently staffed. Monitor employee competence and effectiveness.
  • Prepare estimates for procedures and discusses financial commitments with clients
  • Explain necessary follow-up and home care instructions
  • Stock clinic treatment area and exam rooms, and inform inventory manager when supplies need to be ordered
  • Assist the Veterinarian in medical, surgical, and dental procedures (be very comfortable with blood draws; prepare patients for surgery; administer anesthesia; monitor patients during surgery and recovery; administer fluids)
  • Care for all surgical materials and keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery
  • Educating clients on preventive care and having a strong knowledge of the products we stock
  • Customer service in all forms - interacting face to face, occasionally answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, following up with clients post-visit, and educating clients and empowering them to provide the best care to their pets (Experience with Cornerstone a plus)
