Job summary

Easton Utilities is seeking a Lead Tree Trimmer in Easton, MD to trim trees so they do not interfere with electric lines and to clear right-of-ways. You will collaborate with the Superintendent of Electric Distribution to train and develop an assistant trimmer.

This is a full-time, non-exempt role based in Easton. The position demands at least five years in tree trimming, certifications in roadside tree and herbicide applications, a valid MD CDL, and the ability to operate derricks, bucket

Responsibilities

• Trim trees near energized high voltage primary and low voltage secondary power lines.
• Lead crew; supervise quality and training.
• Clear, inspect and maintain right-of-ways and easements by trimming, chipping, cutting, spraying.
• Apply herbicide on right-of-ways and facilities where appropriate.
• Record Tree Maintenance activity for State Agencies.
• Operate aerial lift trucks, chippers, chainsaws and related tools.
• Assist with restoration of services during emergencies and other duties as needed.
• Explain tree trimming activities to customers and respond to inquiries tactfully.

POSITION: Senior/Lead Tree Trimmer

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Electric Distribution

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Trim trees so they will not interfere with the electric lines. Remove trees and brush from electric right-of-ways. Work with the Superintendent of Electric Distribution to ensure proper training and development of the assistant tree trimmer. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to pass DOT physical
• Must be physically able to work (climb, dig, pull, lift, walk, etc.) while exposed to hazardous conditions, extreme noise and extreme weather conditions.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Trim trees close to energized high voltage primary and low voltage secondary power lines.
• Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed and includes overseeing work quality, training, and instruction.
• Clearing, inspection and maintaining right-of-ways and easements by means of trimming, chipping, clear cutting, spraying, and bush hogging.
• Apply herbicide on right-of-ways and easements and all other facilities where it is determined that such herbicide application is cost effective and preferable over mechanical cutting and trimming.
• Responsible for recording Tree Maintenance activity for State Agencies.
• Exercise proper maintenance and care of all equipment used in the performance of the duties herein described. Such equipment may include, but not limited to, aerial lift trucks, chippers, chain saws, weed eaters, pump sprayers, bush hogs, etc.
• Performs tree removal and trimming at the request of, and in conjunction with, the Town of Easton.
• Enforce Easton Utilities safety regulations and strive for both employee and public safety at all times.
• Assists with restoration of services during emergencies in any department.
• Performs routine work in any department as directed by the Superintendent of Electric Distribution. Examples of such routine work might include flagging traffic, painting metal light poles, assisting with electric construction, installing Christmas decorations, assisting warehouse material clerks with inventory, washing vehicles or equipment, etc.
• Makes repairs to customers’ properties damaged by EU crews and equipment during construction, operations, and maintenance. Such repairs might include, but not limited to, filling and smoothing ruts, sowing grass, spreading straw, repairing fences, etc.
• Explain tree trimming activities to customers when working on consumers' property. Respond to customer inquiries or complaints resolving issues tactfully and expeditiously within the policies and procedures of Easton Utilities.
• Frequent contacts with general public, patrons, or other outside representatives, wherein the manner of handling these contacts has a bearing on the organization's position and operation.
• Respond to customer’s tree trimming inquiries to resolve issues tactfully and expeditiously within the policies and procedures of Easton Utilities.
• Must have at least ten (10) years’ experience.
• Ability to perform duties with a minimum of supervision.
• Enhance the Electric Department’s service and productivity by providing support to other employees, filling in and completing other duties as requested by your direct supervisor or Electric Department Manager.
• Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.
