Leidos seeks a Lead Transmission Line Engineer to design high‑voltage overhead and underground transmission systems from 46kV to 345kV for a major utility. You will apply NESC, ASCE, ACI and related standards in complex projects, and prepare bidding documents, plans, specifications, and procurement packages.

This role interfaces with a multi‑discipline team, clients, planning, environmental, permitting and construction management personnel, with periodic travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and eight years of experience in electric utility transmission design.
  • Experience reviewing full transmission line designs including PLS-CADD models and construction packages.
  • Knowledge of NESC, ACI, AISC and ASCE requirements and procurement processes.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and proposals.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently with client communication.
  • Travel to client sites may be required.
  • Program expertise: PLS-CADD/POLE, LPILE/FAD, Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking a Lead Transmission Line Engineer who will work as a member of a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment, solving challenging problems in electric transmission.

The successful candidate will serve as an Engineer on electric transmission line design projects for high-voltage (HV) overhead and underground systems, from 46kV to 345 kV levels, supporting a major electric utility.

This person will apply NESC, ASCE, ACI, and other applicable standards in the engineering and design of overhead systems, voltage conversion projects, new capacity projects, and infrastructure replacement projects. Additionally, he/she will perform engineering analyses, prepare bidding documents, draft plans and specifications, and prepare material procurement and construction documents. This will involve working with a multi-person Leidos team and interfacing with clients, project planning, environmental, permitting, and construction management personnel.

Work Location: 100% REMOTE based in Michigan's Lower Peninsula with regular site visits across the client's utility service territory. Open to candidates throughout the Lower Peninsula, Northern Indiana, and the Toledo, OH area.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and minimum of eight (8) years of prior relevant experience in the design of electric utility transmission systems
  • Experience in reviewing full transmission line designs including PLS-CADD models, foundations, material, plan and profiles, and construction packages
  • Knowledge of NESC, ACI, AISC, and ASCE code requirements; construction specifications; material procurement process; project schedules; and construction work packages.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and proposals
  • Ability to work effectively in team environment but also able to work independently
  • Proven ability to communicate with clients and project teams
  • Work in client office is a possibility and/or periodic travel may be required
  • Program Expertise:

  • EIT, FE, or Professional Engineer (PE) License
