Job summary

City of Columbia seeks a skilled Electrician with broad experience in installing, maintaining and repairing traffic signal and related electrical systems. Responsibilities include leading junior electricians and coordinating with other city divisions.

The role requires physical stamina and readiness for on-call shifts. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, three years of relevant experience, and a Journeyman Electrician certification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of relevant prior experience.
  • Valid SC Class B driver's license within 12 months.
  • Journeyman Electrician certification required.
  • Availability to work on call, holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • May have IMSA certification.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, tests and maintains electrical/electronic equipment for traffic signals and related systems.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and/or replaces electrical and mechanical equipment as needed.
  • Hangs banners and installs signage on City streets and buildings.
  • Maintains detailed work records and reports.
  • Locates underground utilities.
  • Assists with special projects such as festivals and holiday events.
