Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Consultant - Traffic Engineer to join our Herndon, VA office (also in Richmond, VA). You will lead traffic engineering projects, oversee concept to final design plans, and perform operations/safety/capacity studies.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil Engineering degree, 7+ years of experience, VA PE (or able to obtain within 6 months) and hands-on experience with traffic software such as MicroStation, SignCAD, Synchro/Sim Traffic, and VISSIM.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • 7+ years of related engineering experience.
  • VA PE registration or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Experience with traffic control device design including signing, pavement markings, signals, lighting and ITS.
  • Experience with ATMS and ATC and concept of operations development.
  • Experience with traffic safety analyses, signal optimization, corridor studies and traffic simulation modeling.
  • Proficiency with CADD software (MicroStation) and traffic software (SignCAD, HCS, Synchro/Sim Traffic, VISSIM, ArcGIS).
  • Strong communication and teamwork; mentoring capabilities.

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Consultant - Traffic Engineer to work out of our Herndon, VA or Richmond, VA office.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as Project Lead for the design, management and delivery of traffic engineering projects

  • Develop concept level to final design traffic control device plans for construction/advertisement

  • Perform traffic operations/safety/capacity studies

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • 7+ years of experience in a related engineering position

  • VA PE registration, or ability to obtain within 6 months

  • Experience with traffic control device design in signing, pavement markings, signals, lighting, maintenance of traffic and ITS design

  • Experience with Advanced Transportation Management Systems (ATMS) and Advanced Traffic Signal Controllers (ATC) including the development of a Concept of Operations

  • Experience with traffic safety, operations and capacity analyses, signal optimization, corridor studies, and use of traffic simulation modeling

  • Special provisions, RFP and cost estimate development

  • Strong communications skills and the ability to work on a team and perform projects with guidance and mentoring

  • Hands‑on experience with CADD software, including the most recent version of MicroStation and traffic engineering software such as SignCAD, HCS, Synchro/Sim Traffic, VISSIM and ArcGIS

Preferred Qualifications
  • PTOE, VDOT NOVA experience

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $111,000-$189,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
