Lead Traffic Engineering Manager
Location: Columbus, OH or Cleveland, OH. This role involves leading traffic engineering projects across Ohio and the Midwest, providing technical analysis, and supporting a growing traffic engineering team.
Your Impact
- Lead traffic engineering projects for Ohio and other Midwest states.
- Analyze transportation infrastructure and land development projects using technical tools.
- Perform technical reviews of Synchro, TransModeler, and other traffic engineering software.
- Collaborate with staff from civil, structural, planning, geotechnical disciplines to support diverse projects.
- Engage in marketing and business development activities: outreach, coordination with existing and potential clients, leading pursuits, developing technical proposals, and interaction through professional organizations.
- Work cooperatively with clients and staff to expand the traffic engineering team.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
- Collaborate with federal, state, regional, and local agencies on transportation improvement projects and business opportunities.
- Maintain knowledge of latest traffic engineering techniques.
- Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct, responsible decision‑making regarding company resources, and ethical practices.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 7+ years of post‑education experience in engineering with prior traffic design experience.
- Engineer license required.
- Experience in safety studies.
- Proficiency with traffic engineering tools: Highway Capacity Manual/Software, Synchro/SimTraffic, TransModeler, and other modeling tools.
- Knowledge of traffic control device design, including developing plans, specifications, and estimates for construction projects.
- Working knowledge of FHWA, AASHTO, state DOT guidelines, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, AASHTO Green Book, and NACTO Urban Street Design Guide.
- Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD is desirable.
- Ability to form partnerships with internal and external project management, client representatives, government agencies, and other organizations.
- Positive attitude and people skills as a team player.
- Staff management experience to deliver projects on deadlines and handle multiple staff on multiple projects.
- Mentorship skills to train younger staff in traffic engineering.
- Marketing skills to promote traffic and transportation engineering practice.
- Experience working in corporate environment with diverse professional skill sets.
- Proven safety record and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- PTOE Certification desirable.
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
Compensation
Expected Salary (Cleveland only): $103,500 - $176,000. (Note: Compensation range is in good faith, may vary.)
