Job summary

UC San Diego's Department of Theatre & Dance seeks a Production Carpenter for a 100% in-person, 9-month appointment (Sept–June) with summer leave. You will construct scenic and prop elements, supervise student crews, assist with strikes, and maintain tools and spaces.

The role requires experience in scenic construction, knowledge of technical theatre, ability to read drafting, and safe operation of scene shop equipment. Some weekend/evening work and a California driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Experience in scenic construction across wood, metal, and plastics.
• Knowledge of technical theatre: scenery, properties, paints, and electrics.
• Ability to read and work from scenic drafting and drawings.
• Experience with scene shop equipment and maintenance: hand/power tools, welding equipment.

Responsibilities

• Construct scenic and prop elements and supervise student construction crews.
• Assist with strikes and maintenance of tools, supplies, shops, and spaces.
• Lead student crews on assigned productions and participate in special projects as needed.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain equipment and spaces.
