Universal Health Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Mental Health Technician to join the Abbeville General Hospital inpatient psychiatric unit in Abbeville, LA.

The role supports adults 18+ on a 16-bed unit, performing patient care tasks under Nurse Manager supervision to ensure safety and effective treatment. The MHT will observe and report on patients, escort and monitor admissions/discharges, record vital signs, assist with therapies, and coordinate patient care with the healthcare team.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED required.
• Minimum one year of experience preferred.
• Crisis prevention experience preferred.
• Ability to manage anger, fear, hostility and aggression in others.
• Ability to manage stress appropriately.
• Proficient in applicable software applications.
• Excellent interpersonal skills required.
• Comfortable working as part of a team.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Attend to patient personal needs (hygiene, toileting, bathing, dressing, transferring).
• Escort and monitor patients during admissions, transfers, and discharges; provide one-to-one support as ordered.
• Regularly observe and record patient vital signs and weight.
• Conduct therapies per patient diagnosis and needs.
• Check and document luggage and maintain patient property list.
• Perform clerical duties (charts, forms, filing, supplies).
• Monitor and document food and fluid intake; assist with feeding.
• Complete 15-minute visual checks as policy.
• Provide compassionate emotional and psychological support to patients and families.

Lead Mental Health Technician-7a-7p (Full-Time)

Horizon Health is seeking a Lead Mental Health Tech to join our team at Abbeville General Hospital in Abbeville, LA. This is a 16 bed inpatient psychiatric unit treating ages 18+. The MHT will perform selected patient care activities under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. Primary duties include observing and recording patient information pertinent to the treatment plan and reporting this information to the Registered Nurse. This position is also responsible for escorting and monitoring patient activities and attending to their personal needs. The MHT must be capable of physically assisting patients, dealing with patient emergencies.

• Attend to patient personal needs (oral hygiene, toileting, bathing, dressing, transferring, etc.) as required.
• Escort and monitor patients during admissions, transfers and discharges; and provide line-of-sight or one-to-one support to patients as ordered by the physician.
• Regularly observe and record patients’ behaviors, temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and weight
• Conduct therapies in accordance with patient’s diagnosis and needs.
• Check and document luggage and personal belongings upon admission; maintain patient property list.
• Perform clerical duties including, but not limited to making patient charts, copying forms, filing, ordering supplies, etc.
• Monitor and document patient’s food and fluid intake; feeding patients as required.
• Complete and document 15 minute (or less) visual checks on patients per unit/hospital policy
• Insure patient dignity and respect patient values. Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, families and friends.
