Job Description Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor for Middleman CenterOperations, the SA-D (Lead Tech, Mailroom) coordinates theday-to-day operations of the PSOM's mail receiving and distributionfunction. The position coordinates with Distribution ServicesSupervisors and Sr Coordinator in training the Building ServicesAssistants ("BSA") in the Mailroom function. Under the DistributionServices Supervisor, works in conjunction with Receiving Lead Tech.Using the automated package-tracking system, the Lead Techoperates, reconciles, and reports on the volumes and statuses ofMailroom throughput. The Lead Tech oversees BSA's proper use of theautomated tracking system, cognizant of maintaining data integrityand ensuring proper collection of, and reporting on, barcode andother mail/package data. Assures that members of the PerelmanSchool of Medicine community receive the highest quality servicesfrom the Distribution Services group within Space Planning &Operations. Note: This is a working Lead Technician Position, andLead Tech may be required to cover staff shortages in Receiving andEvent-Support areas. The job requires walking, standing, use ofstandard tools, lifting, and moving of often-delicate equipmentweighing between 100-500 pounds. The job requires the ability tolift 50 pounds unassisted. The Lead Tech must be physically able toperform all functions of this position. This position is considered"essential".

Job Description

The minimum of a High School diploma and 3 to 5 years of experienceor an equivalent combination of education and experience isrequired. Technical School, Certification, training orapprenticeship beyond High School is a plus.

Ability to frequently lift and move heavy objects weighing 25-50pounds or more; physically able to move about actively; must not bebothered by unpleasant odors; mechanical aptitude (may use toolsrequiring high dexterity as required in performance of job duties);must be customer service and team oriented and be able to interfaceand communicate with people at various organizational levels;ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbaland written instructions; highly organized in work assignment andperformance. Overtime is a frequent requirement of this positionmust be able to work overtime on short notice. This job requiresthe ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted. Must be physically ableto perform all functions of this position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Perelman School of Medicine is a multi-building research andteaching complex with emphasis on biomedical research. As such, andto ensure successful fulfillment of its mission (research andeducation), the School Community requires a much higher level ofsupport service delivery than usually experienced in a typicalacademic environment. Problems that would be mere annoyances insome facilities have the potential of destroying thousandsof dollars and months or years of often-irreplaceable work. TheDepartment of Space Planning & Operations is responsible forcoordinating and assuring uninterrupted delivery of the necessaryutility and other support services.
