Job summary

YMCA Whitman Elementary seeks a Lead Teacher to direct the classroom and create engaging, developmentally appropriate programs for youth. You will build positive rapport with children and families, update progress, and ensure alignment with YMCA values and licensing standards.

The role requires ongoing collaboration with staff, parent communication, and a commitment to inclusive, high-quality early childhood education in a full-time position at Whitman Elementary.

Qualifications

• Must have, or willing to receive, Early Childhood Education Certificate within 5 years of hire.
• Previous experience working with children in a developmental, diverse setting.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
• Negative TB test within the past 6 months, MMR Vaccination.
• Registered in DCYF MERIT, Blood Borne Pathogens, apply for a portable background check.
• Within 30 days of hire: First Aid/CPR Certifications, Food Handlers Permit, 30 Hours Basic Training or Educational Exemption.
• Understands the YMCA as a public accommodation committed to inclusion and ADA compliance.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Cultivates positive relationships with children, families and co-workers.
• Leads assigned classroom by supervising, designing, engaging, and nurturing children.
• Adheres to DCYF Licensing, Early Achievers and YMCA standards; follows safety procedures.
• Conducts ongoing observations and evaluations of children and maintains records as requested.
• Provides ongoing dialogue with parents about child needs and progress; conducts family conferences.
• Maintains program site and equipment; keeps classroom organized and prepared.
• Attends and engages with families, co-workers at events and staff meetings.
• Demonstrates YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
