Job summary

The YMCA of Columbia-Willamette in Portland is seeking Lead Teachers for before and after school programs. Multiple positions available, with hours including mornings and afternoons, full-time or part-time options, and weekday availability.

Lead Teachers supervise staff, implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum, and build strong relationships with children, families, and schools in a supportive, community-focused setting.

Qualifications

• Pass a YMCA Background Check.
• At least 240 hours of qualifying experience working with school age children in the past five years, an Associates or higher degree in a related field, or a Step 6 on the Oregon Registry.
• Meet all Program Leader standards as dictated by the state Child Care Division.
• Current enrollment in the Oregon State Childcare Registry or ability to enroll prior to employment.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• Current Food Handlers certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• At least 18 years of age

Responsibilities

• A Lead Teacher will be the onsite leader of the program supervising teachers, aides, and volunteers.
• Responsibilities include maintaining a safe and developmentally appropriate classroom environment, implementing a fun and engaging curriculum, and fostering positive relationships with children, parents, and the school community.

Description

The YMCA is looking for fun, hard working, individuals looking to make an impact in our community. We have multiple positions available, including both before and after school care and after care only at Portland Public School Schools. This position requires availability Monday through Friday and could be full time with hours 6:15-9:00am and 2:00-6:00pm or part time with hours 2:00-6:00pm. Flexible planning time is also available in this position.

Work is primarily performed at YMCA Before and After School programs in Portland. At times, staff may be asked to travel outside of Portland to fill in at other childcare sites within the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette Association. There may be times when staff are asked to attend company events outside of their regular schedule. Staff will be notified ahead of time if and when this happens.
