Job summary

The Goddard School in Denton, TX is seeking a Lead Teacher to guide a safe, nurturing classroom and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum. You will collaborate with co-teachers, plan daily activities, and maintain organized records.

You will communicate with families, monitor compliance with state licensing and TRS standards, and lead staff toward ongoing quality improvement and a positive school culture.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous childcare experience required; Lead Teacher experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Must meet all state licensing requirements.

Position Title: Lead Teacher

Reports To: Director/Assistant Director/Owner

School Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–6:00 PM

Position Summary

The Lead Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom where children can learn and grow. This position plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum, maintains a well-organized learning environment, fosters positive relationships with families, and leads classroom staff while ensuring compliance with all state licensing, Quality Assurance (QA), and Texas Rising Star (TRS) standards.

Teaching & Classroom Leadership
  • Plan and implement engaging, age‑appropriate curriculum and daily learning experiences.
  • Observe and assess children's development and maintain accurate records.
  • Create a welcoming, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Display children's work, curriculum documentation, and classroom learning in meaningful ways.
  • Lead, mentor, and collaborate with co‑teachers to ensure smooth classroom operations.
  • Maintain open, professional communication with families regarding their child's development and daily experiences.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure the safety, health, and well‑being of every child through active supervision and adherence to all school policies.
  • Maintain compliance with all state licensing regulations, Quality Assurance expectations, and Texas Rising Star (TRS) standards.
  • Keep the classroom organized, inspection‑ready, and compliant at all times.
  • Complete all required documentation, lesson plans, assessments, attendance records, and incident reports accurately and on time.
  • Participate in coaching, training, classroom observations, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous childcare experience required; Lead Teacher experience preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Lift and carry children up to and over 50 pounds.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, squat, sit on the floor, and stand for extended periods.
  • Participate in indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
