Job summary

YMCA of Columbia-Willamette, Inc. is seeking a Lead Teacher to oversee an after-school program focused on a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for school-age children.

The role includes supervising staff and volunteers, maintaining classroom standards, and building strong relationships with families and the school community. The position requires 240+ hours of relevant experience or an associate or higher degree, or Oregon Registry Step 6, plus CPR/First Aid and Food

Qualifications

  • Pass a YMCA Background Check.
  • 240+ hours of school-age child care experience in past 5 years.
  • Associates or higher degree in a related field, or Step 6 on Oregon Registry.
  • Meet all Program Leader standards as dictated by the state Child Care Division.
  • Current enrollment in the Oregon State Childcare Registry or ability to enroll prior to employment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Current Food Handlers certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Teacher will supervise teachers, aides, and volunteers onsite.
  • Maintain a safe, developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Implement a fun and engaging curriculum.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, parents, and the school community.
  • Work primarily in Hillsboro School District; may travel to other YMCA sites; may attend events outside regular schedule.

Job description

The YMCA is looking for fun, hard working, individuals looking to make an impact in our community. This position requires availability Monday through Friday 2:00-6:00pm. Flexible planning time is also available in this position.

Job Responsibilities:

A Lead Teacher will be the onsite leader of the program supervising teachers, aides, and volunteers. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe and developmentally appropriate classroom environment, implementing a fun and engaging curriculum, and fostering positive relationships with children, parents, and the school community. Work is primarily performed in Hillsboro School District. At times, staff may be asked to travel to fill in at other childcare sites within the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette Association. There may be times when staff are asked to attend company events outside of their regular schedule. Staff will be notified ahead of time if and when this happens.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Pass a YMCA Background Check
  • At least 240 hours of qualifying experience working with school age children in the past five years, an Associates or higher degree in a related field, or a Step 6 on the Oregon Registry.
