Job summary

Asheville Jewish Community Center seeks a Lead Teacher for Shalom Children's Center. Design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for preschool children, in collaboration with the Assistant Teacher.

You will foster social-emotional growth, support classroom instruction, and ensure compliance with NC DCDEE standards while building strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications

• AA or BA in Early Childhood Education, or a college degree with 22 credits in ECE including the NCECC.
• Minimum 1 year experience teaching in a preschool; 3 years in a professional preschool/child care environment preferred.
• Experience with Reggio-Emilia inspired or emergent inquiry learning preferred.
• Strong teamwork, flexibility, and communication skills.
• NC Qualifying Letter (before start) and CPR/First Aid within 90 days of hire.
• Basic computer proficiency (Outlook, Word, Zoom).

Responsibilities

Overview

Join our welcoming JCC community as a Lead Teacherin our Shalom Children's Center! The Lead Teacher is responsible for designing and implementing an engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experience for the children in their care. This role works closely with the Assistant teacher to implement lesson plans, encourage social-emotional growth, and ensure compliance with NC DCDEE standards while fostering strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues.

What You’ll Do

• Design and maintain the classroom space to provide safe and engaging learning opportunities that encourage children’s participation and comply with ITERS/ECERS.
• Support classroom instruction and child-centered learning.
• Foster children’s social-emotional development and classroom community.
• Maintain safe, organized environments in accordance with NC DCDEE guidelines.
• Establish and implement classroom schedules and lesson plans in collaboration with the teaching team.
• Maintain documentation on each child and provide families with opportunities to meet in conferences and on an as-needed basis.
• Build positive, professional relationships with children, families, and staff.

What We’re Looking For

• AA or BA in Early Childhood Education,or
• College degree in related field with 22 semester credit hours in Early Childhood Education including the NCECC (North Carolina Early Childhood Credential)
• Minimum of 1 year experience teaching in a preschool environment; 3 years experience teaching in a professional preschool or child care environmentpreferred
• Experience implementing a Reggio-Emilia inspired or emergent inquiry learning approach,preferred
• Strong teamwork, flexibility, and communication skills
• Ability to actively engage with children and ensure their safety.
• NC Qualifying Letter (before start date) and CPR/First Aid certification (within 90 days of hire)
• Basic computer proficiency (Outlook, Word, Zoom, communication apps)
