About the Company
The company develops cloud-native networking software that enables service providers to modernize their network edge using the same principles that cloud providers apply to data centers.
Its platform replaces traditional, monolithic networking systems with disaggregated software that runs on open, white-box networking hardware and cloud infrastructure. The platform supports multiple service provider edge functions, including Broadband Network Gateway (BNG), Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT), peering, aggregation, and edge routing.
Built around open APIs, automation, and AI-assisted network operations, the platform is designed to simplify network management, improve operational efficiency, and reduce total cost of ownership. The software is deployed in production environments and has been validated by service providers internationally.
As the company expands its presence in the U.S. market, it is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to drive customer evaluations, technical deployments, and successful platform adoption.
About the Role
The Lead Systems Engineer will own the technical execution of customer engagements, from initial Proofs of Concept (PoCs) through production deployments and operational handover.
This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor role for an experienced networking professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working directly with customers, and collaborating closely with product and engineering teams.
Responsibilities include building and validating customer network topologies, troubleshooting routing and forwarding issues, automating configurations, supporting production deployments, and training customer engineering teams to operate the platform independently.
The ideal candidate combines deep service provider networking expertise with strong Linux, automation, and cloud-native networking skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Customer PoCs: Manage end-to-end technical evaluations, from initial lab setup and bare-metal provisioning through configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and validation.
- Drive Production Deployments: Lead field implementations and migrations from legacy network edge platforms to modern, disaggregated networking software.
- Troubleshoot Complex Networking Issues: Diagnose and resolve routing, forwarding, QoS, interoperability, and convergence issues in service provider environments.
- Provide Technical Escalation Support: Serve as a trusted technical escalation point during deployments and incidents, driving issues toward resolution and communicating status clearly to stakeholders.
- Automate Network Operations: Develop repeatable configuration, deployment, and validation workflows using Python, Go, Ansible, NETCONF/RESTCONF, or similar tools.
- Enable Customer Engineering Teams: Deliver technical training, documentation, and operational handovers that enable customers to manage and troubleshoot the platform independently.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering: Provide detailed bug reports, logs, reproduction steps, and customer feedback to support product improvements and accelerate issue resolution.
- Support Technical Sales Engagements: Build customer demonstration environments and provide hands-on technical expertise to advance opportunities through successful technical validation.
What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months
- Enable the first four customer or partner PoCs and help convert them into technical wins.
- Support the first two U.S. customer reference deployments migrating from incumbent network edge platforms.
- Resolve customer implementation challenges and technical escalations across the assigned geography.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to develop and maintain customer demonstration environments.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years in network operations, field engineering, systems engineering, or technical support within a networking vendor or service provider environment.
- Routing and Service Provider Networking: Strong practical knowledge of BGP, EVPN, L2VPN, advanced routing attributes, route policies, IS-IS, and OSPF.
- Forwarding and QoS: Hands-on experience with hierarchical QoS (H-QoS), access control lists (ACLs), and Unicast Reverse Path Forwarding (uRPF).
- Linux: Strong proficiency with Linux command-line tools, system troubleshooting, and software deployment.
- Cloud-Native Networking: Solid understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, APIs, NETCONF/YANG, and containerized networking environments.
- Network Automation: Experience automating network configuration, testing, or deployments using Ansible, Python, Go, NETCONF/RESTCONF, or comparable technologies.
- Testing and Troubleshooting Tools: Hands-on experience with traffic generators such as IXIA, Spirent, or BNG Blaster, and packet analysis tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump.
- Customer-Facing Execution: Ability to independently manage technical evaluations, support complex deployments, troubleshoot customer environments, and communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
- Ownership and Autonomy: A proactive, results-oriented approach with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) or Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) technologies.
- Knowledge of PPPoE, IPoE, L2TP, CGNAT, and subscriber management.
- Familiarity with Broadcom merchant silicon, DNX-based chipsets, network processing units (NPUs), and white-box networking hardware.
- Experience with disaggregated networking architectures or cloud-native network operating systems.
- Previous experience at a networking startup, challenger vendor, or provider of open networking solutions.
- Experience supporting service provider network migrations and production deployments.
