Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS in Alexandria, VA is seeking a senior Lead System Engineer (Manufacturing) to analyze DoD programs, focusing on manufacturing issues, prototyping, and life-cycle considerations. You will interface with engineers and decision-makers to assess risks and develop manufacturing-focused plans.

The role requires a BS and 10–12 years of related experience, with a Secret clearance and ability to obtain TS/SCI.

Qualifications

  • Expert understanding of DoD instructions and regulations impacting manufacturing efforts.
  • Familiar with emerging technology, digital engineering tools and AI impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of engineers and warfare area experts to analyze and assess DoD acquisition programs and prototype efforts with attention paid to manufacturing issues, roadblocks, design impacts, and related issues.
  • Using a holistic approach, reviews end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle.
  • Engages with programs across DoD to understand and assess issues and factors impacting capability delivery.
  • Integrate issues and risks related to manufacturing issues into DTE&A Risk Assessments and other reviews.
  • Work closely within an assessment team to design and execute an analysis; brief senior DoD decision makers on risks and issues.
  • Using available documentation including digital products, discern and evaluate key requirements, test cases, verification and validation efforts.
  • Understand the key issues and drivers at the various acquisition program milestones; develop manufacturing-focused assessment plans appropriate for program status.
  • Regularly interface with other OSW elements, service offices, test activities, MDAP Chief Engineers, and industry experts.
  • Provide Systems Engineering and Developmental Test and Evaluation (DTE&A) expertise/knowledge in support of Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAP) and OSW policy.
  • Understand high-level product development strategies and the impact upon capability deliver. Work with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop detailed analysis of prototypes and acquisition programs.
  • Participates in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation.
  • Reviews test plans/procedures, TEMPs, SEPs, ADMs, IMSs and other acquisition documentation to understand impact on manufacturing.
  • Provide expert input to emerging DoD policies and instructions relating to manufacturing issues.
  • Analyzes project proposals and engineering data to determine feasibility, producibility, cost estimates, and production time of DoD products.
  • Reviews performance reports and documentation from vendors, requirements owners, field engineers, and testers related to engaged programs.
  • Reviews selection of vendors and proposed development approaches.
  • Reviews and assists in planning of test campaigns and prototype demonstrations.

Overview

WANTED: A Senior Systems Engineer with demonstrated experience working with DoW programs focused on engineering disciplines related to system development, manufacturing, additive manufacturing, industrial scaling, and industrial base issues. Desired experience in systems analysis, test and evaluation (T&E), and working with new technology and innovation efforts.

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $155,000.00/Yr. - USD $195,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
