Job Summary
Our client is looking for a hands-on Lead Surveillance Systems Technician to lead field crews while also handling advanced system configurations and network integrations. This role blends traditional low-voltage installation oversight with backend IT responsibilities, ensuring systems are not just installed, but fully operational and optimized.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Field Management
- Lead, schedule, and mentor installation technicians on commercial and residential projects.
- Ensure quality, safety, and on-time completion of work.
- Perform site assessments and adjust plans in real time.
System Configuration & IT Support
- Install, configure, and optimize surveillance systems (IP cameras, NVR/DVR, PoE switches).
- Set up networking infrastructure for security systems - including VLANs, subnets, routing, and remote access.
- Troubleshoot network and device connectivity issues and coordinate with IT teams when needed.
- Deploy and manage camera firmware updates, VMS, analytics, and integrations with access control.
Technical Execution
- Cable runs, conduit installation, termination, labeling, and testing.
- Camera mounting, alignment, focus adjustment, and image tuning.
- Configure NVRs (recording schedules, retention, export/video backup).
- Diagnose system performance (latency, bandwidth, packet loss).
Customer & Project Coordination
- Interface with clients and project managers to deliver updates, collect requirements, and train end users on system basics.
- Provide accurate time/log reporting and inventory tracking.
Training & Documentation
- Train junior technicians on both field implementation and backend system configuration.
- Maintain detailed job documentation, network diagrams, and configuration logs.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years in video surveillance, low-voltage systems, or security integrator fieldwork.
- Proven leadership experience supervising technicians and managing project workflows.
- Strong understanding of IP networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, subnetting).
- Hands-on experience with surveillance brands.
- Proficient with network gear, including switches, PoE, routers, and firewalls.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with remote access setup (VPN, secure web portals).
- Familiarity with Windows Server, DNS configuration, Active Directory basics.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, BICSI, Cisco CCNA (or equivalent), or vendor-specific training.
