Chalet Veterinary Clinic is a three-doctor general practice located in the charming, culturally rich town of Stoughton, Wisconsin. We're proud to be part of this historic community and are always happy to welcome team members from Stoughton and the surrounding areas.

We're looking for a skilled, compassionate, and surgery-focused Certified Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated team as our Lead Surgery Technician. We offer both full-time and part-time opportunities.

We're not in a rush to fill this position. We're looking for the right person—someone who shares our commitment to exceptional patient care and client service, genuinely enjoys surgery and anesthesia, and wants to be part of a workplace that respects their skills, time, boundaries, and ideas.

If you want to take greater ownership of surgical patient care without sacrificing your personal time, we'd love to meet you.

Why Our Veterinary Technicians Love It Here

  • Take the lead on scheduled surgical procedures and help shape efficient surgical workflows
  • Work alongside three veterinarians in an established canine and feline general practice
  • Enjoy consistent workweeks and predictable scheduling
  • No expected overtime—our team isn't expected to routinely work late or outside scheduled hours
  • Meetings are scheduled during working hours with appropriate time set aside for them
  • Work-related communication stays within regular work hours so your personal time remains yours
  • Enjoy a genuine 30-minute to one-hour lunch break
  • Focus on your clinical responsibilities while a professional cleaning service handles general facility cleaning
  • Work in a smaller team where your experience, ideas, and input can make a meaningful impact
  • Practice with 30-minute appointments and dedicated lunch breaks built into the day
  • Work with digital radiology and extensive in-house and reference laboratory capabilities
  • Receive mentoring, continuing education, and professional development support
  • Enjoy a stocked snack area with complimentary treats to help get you through the day
  • Join a hospital that believes respecting veterinary professionals is essential to providing exceptional patient care

As our Lead Surgery CVT, you'll own many aspects of our scheduled surgical workflow while collaborating closely with our veterinarians and fellow team members.

  • Serve as the lead technician for scheduled surgical procedures
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including catheter placement, bloodwork, surgical preparation, and pre-anesthetic assessments
  • Induce, maintain, and monitor anesthesia under veterinarian direction
  • Monitor and accurately record anesthetic parameters and patient vital signs
  • Assist veterinarians throughout surgical procedures
  • Provide thorough and attentive post-operative monitoring and recovery
  • Recognize changes in patient status and promptly communicate concerns to the veterinarian
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and anesthesia equipment
  • Ensure surgical areas are properly cleaned, disinfected, stocked, and prepared for procedures
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate surgical and anesthesia inventory
  • Complete weekly controlled substance audits and maintain accurate records in accordance with clinic policies and regulatory requirements
  • Help establish and maintain efficient surgical workflows and protocols
  • Perform venipuncture and IV catheter placement
  • Obtain diagnostic digital radiographs

  • Administer vaccinations and medications as directed
  • Perform treatments under veterinarian direction

  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners regarding their pets' condition, treatment, and aftercare
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records
  • Assist with general technician responsibilities and patient care throughout the hospital as needed

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a veterinary professional who combines strong clinical skills with compassion, attention to detail, leadership, and a genuine interest in surgical patient care.

  • Certified Veterinary Technician credentials
  • A strong interest in surgery, anesthesia, and perioperative patient care
  • Experience preparing patients for surgical procedures
  • Confidence with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Strong venipuncture and IV catheter placement skills
  • Experience obtaining quality diagnostic radiographs
  • Safe and compassionate patient handling and restraint skills
  • Ability to recognize changes in anesthetized and recovering patients and communicate concerns appropriately

  • Excellent client communication and education skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • A collaborative, team-first approach
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities while working closely with veterinarians and teammates
  • Commitment to exceptional patient care, client service, and continued professional growth

The Extras You’ll Actually Feel

At Chalet Veterinary Clinic, respecting your role means more than saying we value work-life balance. We've built practical boundaries into the way our hospital operates.

We respect your position. We use a professional cleaning service to maintain our workspace, so our clinical team can focus on patient care rather than staying behind for end-of-day facility cleaning.

We respect your boundaries. Meetings happen during working hours with appropriate time allocated for them. Work communication also stays within regular working hours rather than following you into your personal time.

We respect your schedule. Our employees are not expected to routinely work overtime or stay beyond their scheduled hours. Consistent workweeks help you know what to expect and plan your life outside the hospital.

We value you as an individual. Being part of a smaller team gives you an opportunity to influence team dynamics, workflows, projects, and decision-making. Your ideas and experience matter here.

Lunch breaks are your time. We advocate for real 30-minute to one-hour lunch breaks so you can step away, eat, and recharge.

And yes, there are snacks. We keep a complimentary snack area stocked because sometimes the small things make a meaningful difference during a busy veterinary day.
