Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado seeks a Lead Instrument/Sterile Processing Technician in Colorado Springs to oversee decontamination, reprocessing, and maintenance of surgical instruments and endoscopes. The role supports the OR and Procedure Center as a surgical specialty liaison and leads staff training on manufacturer guidelines.

The position is full-time, overnight shift (2100-0730) with on-call and some holidays, offering benefits and a structured total rewards package.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED.
• Experience: 3 years of surgical instrumentation in a hospital sterile processing environment.
• Certifications: CRCST, CSPDT, CIS or CER are required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Anticipates OR needs and manages the workroom to minimize schedule delays.
• Serves as the surgical specialty liaison to the Operating Room and Procedure Center.
• Trains staff on cleaning and sterilization per instrument manufacturer guidelines.
• Creates, updates, and inputs instrument set lists into the SPM system.
• Performs decontamination of durable medical equipment and OR surgical instruments.
• Ensures proper care, handling, and functionality of surgical instruments before reassembly.
• Participates in professional education and maintains certifications.
• Precepts new employees and supports their training and development.
• Assists with staffing, planning, and specialized technical operations.
• Oversees departmental operations in management's absence and applies policies.
• Leads quality improvement efforts and may spearhead quality initiatives.
• Communicates with medical and nursing staff about service changes and equipment needs.
