Job summary

Scripps Mercy San Diego is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our Central Processing Department. This full-time, benefited role typically works Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego campus in Hillcrest.

You will clean, package, sterilize, store, and distribute instruments and supplies; maintain sterilizer equipment; coordinate with other departments; and support department operations and staff development.

Qualifications

• Completion of college training program for SPD or online study program or completion of formal on the job training program.
• 5 years of SPD experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• Working knowledge of sterilizers, surgical instrumentation and medical equipment.
• Proficient in MS Office and familiarity in database management.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the cleaning, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical instruments, equipment, and supplies used in procedures for patient care.
• Cleans and disinfects equipment requiring decontamination or sterilization according to designated principles of asepsis.
• Responds to immediate requests for sterilization or delivery of sterilized instruments to ensure there is no patient exposure to bioburden.
• Responsible for testing and recording of sterilizer equipment performance to ensure operating within sterility standards.
• Maintains established control systems for supplies and equipment processed.
• Coordinates daily communication and operational needs with affiliated departments.
• May function as department lead with responsibility for assisting with daily department operations including staff scheduling, training, mentoring, and performance management.
• May function as the technical expert for a particular service line and in this role is responsible for improving service line processes and daily quality outcomes.
• Leads performance/process improvement projects.
