Laurelhurst House Assisted Living is seeking a Lead Specific Needs Personal Care Attendant to provide direct resident care and support behavior interventions. You will mentor and train Personal Care Attendants while maintaining a positive environment for residents.

The role requires state certifications, First Aid/CPR, and basic word processing, with hourly compensation between $21 and $27.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Specific Needs Personal Care Attendant provides direct resident care, supports behavior interventions, completes assignments as a universal worker, and assists in maintaining a positive physical and psychosocial environment for residents. The Lead Specific Needs Personal Care Attendant assists with mentoring and training of Personal Care Attendants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides direct resident care while promoting resident dignity, independence, and personal choice. Regularly observes residents’ physical and mental conditions and reports changes to health services leadership or Executive Director.
  • Provides care and services as directed by the resident’s cooperative service plan.
  • Coordinates personal care services with co-workers assisting with lifting and responds to assistance pages promptly.
  • Supports residents with behavioral health or cognitive needs, utilizing de-escalation and behavior mitigation strategies.
  • Reports and documents all incidents and accidents per policy. Completes all required notifications and incident report forms.
  • Assists residents to and from dining room and activities.
  • Participates in care planning meetings and reinforces interventions to maximize resident abilities and interests.
  • Performs First Aid and initiates emergency response procedures as required.
  • Greets residents, visitors, and staff courteously and answers phones when assigned.
  • Follows and supports community fire safety and infection control practices and promptly reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to immediate supervisor or Executive Director.
  • Serves meals in the dining room, assisting residents at mealtime, provides resident tray delivery, and assists with dining room and kitchen clean up and maintenance.
  • Assists in lifting, moving, and transporting residents using proper body mechanics or assistive devices as directed by the resident’s cooperative service plan.
  • Assists with tours, move-ins, move-outs, and transfers.
  • Assists with apartment housekeeping services and resident’s laundry.
  • Attends and participates in training, in-services, and staff meetings.
  • Partners with health services leadership to provide mentorship and training to Personal Care Attendants as needed.
  • Assists with staffing and scheduling of Personal Care Attendants as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Must hold state required certification, complete state required delegation and/or training requirements and successfully complete the ADL competency return demonstration. Must have word processing skills. Current First Aid and CPR certification. Food Handlers permit if required by State.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED with one or more years of personal care experience with older adults preferred or equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has indirect supervisory responsibilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with residents, visitors, and staff. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to accurately observe, report, and problem-solve residents’ needs with assistance of a supervisor. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
