Job summary

CesiumAstro in Austin, TX seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead design, development, testing, and flight qualification of advanced spaceborne payloads. The Unit Lead oversees multidisciplinary teams and ensures on-time delivery in a fast-paced startup environment.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, 9+ years in electronics hardware, hands-on SDR experience, and strong systems engineering and leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 9+ years of engineering experience in electronics hardware development.
• Hands-on experience with software-defined radios.
• Leadership experience mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong knowledge of systems engineering, requirements flowdown, verification/validation, and configuration management.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the RPU Unit Lead and primary technical contact for the box throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Lead end-to-end engineering for the box: architecture, design, prototyping, integration, test, and flight readiness.
• Coordinate a team of RF, digital, power, mechanical, thermal, software, and systems engineers to ensure timely execution.
• Hold schedule accountability for the box development.
• Develop and review payload control schemes, interfaces, and firmware/software integration as needed.
• Manage flight qualification activities including environmental tests and acceptance testing.
• Own the transition to volume production and create customer-facing documentation.
• Generate and maintain box-level documents: requirements, ICDs, block diagrams, test plans, risk registers.
• Interface with spacecraft systems engineering, mission assurance, manufacturing, and vendors.
