At Alert Venture Foundry (AVF), we build robotics systems that span embedded hardware, real-time software, cloud infrastructure, and user-facing applications. Ensuring reliability across these layers is critical.

We’re looking for a Lead Software Quality Engineer to define and drive testing strategy for software running on hardware-integrated systems. You’ll own quality practices across embedded, control, cloud, and UI layers while mentoring SQA engineers and shaping how systems are validated and released.

This is a hands‑on leadership role focused on defining quality, building validation systems, and ensuring real‑world performance. This job will be four days per week onsite in North Billerica, MA.

What You’ll Do:

• Define and lead the software quality and testing strategy across embedded, robotics, and cloud systems.
• Establish test plans and methodologies—what to test, how to test, and how to prioritize based on risk.
• Design and evolve testing infrastructure, including simulation, HIL/SIL, and CI‑integrated workflows.
• Guide development of test automation frameworks and ensure integration into CI/CD.
• Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines for reliable, repeatable validation.
• Create and present test reports and quality metrics to inform release readiness.
• Define quality standards, coverage expectations, and release criteria.
• Leverage telemetry, logging, and observability for validation and debugging.
• Drive testability improvements in software architecture.
• Mentor SQA engineers and support field validation and failure analysis.

What We’re Looking For:

• 6+ years in software quality, test engineering, or system validation, ideally with hardware‑integrated or robotics systems.
• Experience owning test strategy and planning across complex systems.
• Strong understanding of unit, integration, system, regression, and performance testing.
• Experience designing or guiding testing infrastructure (simulation, HIL/SIL, CI‑based validation).
• Familiarity with test automation and ability to guide automation efforts.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
• Experience creating test reports, metrics, and dashboards.
• Strong debugging skills across software and system-level behavior.
• Ability to influence cross‑functional teams.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in a relevant technical field.

Bonus Points For:

• Robotics tools (ROS2, MAVLink, Gazebo, Isaac Sim).
• Experience contributing to automation frameworks (Python or similar).
• Familiarity with observability tools (Grafana, ELK, Prometheus).
• Embedded or edge software testing experience.
• Background in safety‑critical systems or startup environments.
