Job summary

JPMorgan Chase is seeking a Lead Software Engineer in New Jersey to lead design and implementation of enterprise applications across domains. You will ship secure, scalable backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Python, and deliver AI/ML features through full life cycles in an Agile environment.

You will drive architecture, data analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams while promoting best practices in security and observability.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification in Software Engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
• Strong software engineering experience in Java and Spring Boot, including building and supporting production services.
• Proficient in Python, including writing production-grade code and integrating with enterprise systems.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
• Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle, CI/CD, application resiliency/observability, and security.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful web services, working with JSON, and integrating across distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience developing or integrating AI/ML solutions in production (model integration, orchestration, evaluation, or ML-powered features).
• Familiarity with LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and vector search concepts.

• Write secure, high-quality production code (Java/Spring Boot and Python), applying best practices in code quality and testing.
• Design, develop, and troubleshoot AI/ML solutions, applying creative problem-solving to technical challenges.
• Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications, including service decomposition, API contracts, and integration patterns.
• Analyze and visualize large data sets to drive continuous improvement of applications and systems.
• Identify patterns and insights in data to improve coding hygiene, performance, reliability, and system architecture.
• Contribute to software engineering communities and explore new and emerging technologies (backend engineering and AI/ML).

In this core technical role, you lead the design and implementation of critical technology solutions across multiple technical domains and business functions, ensuring alignment with the firm’s strategic objectives and promoting high-quality outcomes for stakeholders.

• Knowledge of RESTful Web Services and JSON for integrating solutions.
• Agile development experience with SCRUM or similar methodologies.
• Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning tools and frameworks in development.
• Familiarity with agentic workflows and relevant frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, Auto-GPT) is a plus.
