Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Chicago seeks a Lead Software Engineer to advance trusted, scalable technology products in a secure, stable environment. You will contribute technically across multiple domains and drive critical solutions for the Commercial and Investment Bank.

You will lead the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices, design zero-downtime releases, and ensure robust data performance while mentoring teammates and aligning with enterprise standards.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Proficiency in back-end technologies (Java and Python) with experience building microservices-based applications; proficiency also includes front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular).
• Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations

• Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or breakdown technical problems
• Use domain modeling techniques to build best-in-class business products, structuring software for clarity, testability, and evolution.
• Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
• Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes
• Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
• Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
• Promptly investigate and resolve issues, ensuring they do not resurface.
• Continuously update technologies and patterns to keep systems current.
• Design and build solutions that avoid single points of failure using scalable architectural patterns.
• Design and build scalable, secure, and reliable solutions leveraging modern architectural patterns for zero-downtime releases and data performance.
• Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs

As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

• Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
• Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Proficiency in back-end technologies (Java and Python) with experience building microservices-based applications; proficiency also includes front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Typescript, React, Angular).
• Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices
• Hands-on experience designing and building scalable applications using SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with agentic AI protocols (e.g., MCP, AG-UI) and frameworks such as Lang Chain, Lang Graph
• Experience with agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum) and an understanding of the software development life cycle.
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
• Practical cloud native experience
